Nature – A story where “I” does not exist
From Repulse Bay to Tai Mo Shan – I walk into the mountain-wood, farther away from the city, embarking on a journey in search of Androgyny, the unisexual animal. In the timeless mountain-wood, each subtle experience of my body is amplified, allowing me to re-examine my relationship with _____, and with him, with her, with it, with Him, and also, with you. I leave the mountain-wood, having found the most authentic “self”.
In a third-time collaboration of Theatre Ronin’s Artistic Director Alex Tam and promising choreographer Ivanhoe Lam (P.E. Period 2.0 and Sew & Soul), both artistes return to the theatre to respond to novelist Dung Kai-cheung’s literary work. Contrastive imageries and concepts taken from Dung’s novel – body and limbs, male and female, ying and yang, animals and plants, rural and urban – are interwoven to construct an extraordinary narrative space rich in texture through a dialogue between drama and dance, putting genuine body and fictitious language side by side. Leaving behind for a while the urban civilization and the crumbling age that we are living, we will then see clearer how to face our uneasiness in it, and regain our “wildness” from Nature. Amid dense mist we re-build another nature – and this has become the (only) way to face the exterior world.
