卡夫卡臨終前要求他的朋友布勞德,燒毀他留下來的七個箱子。這七個箱子裝滿了卡夫卡的著作,是他留下來的文學遺產。面對七箱手稿,布勞德如何是好?究竟他最後選擇與卡夫卡做朋友?還是與文學做朋友?這場製作運用編作劇場的形式,配合多媒體錄影、破格的實驗音樂、強烈的舞台意象及獨特的演出風格,把卡夫卡的作品意念,化為一個「舞台精讀版」,讓觀眾細味這位前衛文學家的創作生命。
《卡夫卡的七個箱子》於第十八屆香港舞台劇獎獲得「十大最受歡迎劇目」、「最佳導演(悲劇/正劇)」、「最佳音響設計」及「最佳化裝造型」獎。同年,更獲得第一屆香港小劇場獎的「最佳劇本」、「最佳導演」、「最佳女主角」、「最佳舞台效果」及「最佳整體演出」多個獎項。
The story depicts the struggle within Max Brod when Kafka asks him to destroy seven boxes of his works with a flame before he dies. In front of these seven boxes containing the literature legacy of Kafka, Max Brod wonders what to do. Betray a best friend or his faith in literature? Seven Boxes possessed of Kafka gathers a full range of Kafka’s creative ideas and he is outlined 3-dimentionally through Devising Theatre with the help of multi-media technology, experimental music, vigorous visual impact on stage and powerful performing style. What is presented to the audience is a multi-layer version of this avant-garde literature writer.
Premiered in 2008, Seven Boxes Possessed of Kafka was awarded Best Director (Drama/Tragedy), Best Sound Design, Best Make-up Image and Top 10 Most Popular Productions Award at the 18th Hong Kong Drama Awards; the production was also awarded Best Play Script, Best Director, Best Leading Actress, Best Stage Effects and Best Ensemble at the 1st Hong Kong Theatre Libre. The show was rerun in 2009 with full houses of audience. Upon invitation, the show toured to Shanghai, Beijing and Macau. It was well received with critical acclaim.
