"Post-Garden," co-produced by the Department of Music and the Department of New Media Art at Taipei National University of The Arts (with the participation of Le CNSMD de Lyon), is an original transdisciplinary experimental theater combining new media art with contemporary music and taking "surpassing" as its core theme. The main concept of "Post-Garden" is an exploration of self-identity as well as a reflection or a question on the environment. Based on the new technology and original contemporary music, it presents an avant-garde performance that crosses the established boundaries, thereby starting a dialogue between self-identity and natural surroundings. Traditionally, a garden is an artificial space, usually with public and ornamental functions, exhibiting certain aesthetic or cultural relationship between people and garden arrangements; "post," borrowed from the term "post-modernism," bears the meaning of transcendence and redevelopment. Entitled "Post-Garden," this performance attempts to transcend the existing ornamentality and framework, establishing and even transcending the cultural dialogue between artificiality and nature. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, young composers, performers, and new media artists from the Department of Music and the Department of New Media Art at TNUA work together to create such an innovative and experimental Post-Garden: applying electronics, acoustics, new instruments, image installations, and the music by well-known Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, this theater aims to create multiple dialogues between reality and virtuality, sounds and images, localization and globalization, classicality and originality, nature and humanities, ecology and technology, as well as the audience and the work.
