An evening concert of North Indian classical music performed on the santoor by internationally renowned maestro Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya. This part of the recital will dwell in choicest ragas joined on tabla by Abhiman Kaushal.
The beginning part of the evening known as Alap will be the unfolding of notes of the raga on the Santoor which sets a meditative and contemplative atmosphere for the listener. Following the Alap on the Santoor, the rhythmically exciting beats of the tabla join the music providing exciting exchanges and virtuosic display of artistic prowess and dexterity of the artists culminating into a frenzy finale.
The second half of the evening will be one of the most beautiful classical art forms from India, Odissi, performed by the highly reputed Sanchita Banerjee. This graceful display of bodily triple bends (tribangha) along with dynamic footwork imitating the beats of the ancient drum Pakhawaj leaves audience mesmerized with the uniqueness of this dance form.
The final piece will be a rare collaboration between Santoor, tabla and dance where a pre composed theme on the Santoor will be complimented by the dynamic beats of the tabla and the soulful grace of Odissi dance. Even though based on a pre-composed theme, there will be a lot of impromptu improvisation between the three artists which carries an element of artistic surprise for the audience to cherish.
